The Forum is open to everyone, including students, visitors, and faculty members from all departments and institutes!

The 60 minute lecture is followed by a 10 minute break and a 30-60 minute discussion. The language of presentation is English or Hungarian.
The scope of the Forum includes all aspects of theoretical philosophy, including:
  • logic and philosophy of formal sciences
  • philosophy of science
  • modern metaphysics
  • epistemology
  • philosophy of language
  • problems in history of philosophy and history of science, relevant to the above topics
  • particular issues in natural and social sciences, important for the discourses in the main scope of the Forum.

A büntetés szerepe az együttműködés fenntartásában
(The role of punishment in the maintenance of cooperation)
Az előadás elején röviden áttekintjük az evolúciós játékelmélet fejlődését, beleértve az új irányzatokat és a kísérleti eredményeket. A szemléletmód illusztrálásaként részletesebben elemzünk egy olyan matematikai modellt, ahol a játékosok jövedelme a szomszédoktól származik közlegelő játékokon keresztül. Az eredeti változatban a játékosok csak a tisztességes vagy potyázó magatartás között választhatnak oly módon, hogy utánozzák a sikeresebb szomszédot. A modell kiterjesztésével tanulmányozzuk az intézményes és egyéni büntetés hatékonyságát és életképességét a tisztességes magatartás fenntarthatóságának szempontjából.

Esszencia és relevancia - egy antiesszencialista érv vázlata
(Essence and relevance - Outlines of an anti-essentialist argument)
Az esszencia vagy lényeg a kortárs analitikus metafizika egyik legfontosabb fogalma. Szerepe számos -- a metafizika alapjait is érintő -- kérdés esetében központi jelentőségű. Az utóbbi évtizedek fejleményei az esszencializmus témakörében azonban a fogalmat illető alapvető problémákra hívták fel a figyelmet. Előadásomban a -- véleményem szerint -- legsúlyosabb ilyen problémát mutatom be és amellett érvelek, hogy az esszencializmus nem képes megfelelő megoldást adni rá. Plauzibilitása ilyen módon súlyosan megkérdőjeleződik.

On different conceptions of physical possibility
What does 'physically possible' mean? Despite a widespread belief that there exists a standard, commonly accepted view, philosophers quote two distinct, non-equivalent formulations. I'm going to explore consequences of this difference, some of which should be troublesome for those accepting Humean supervenience of laws. To the extent time permits I also make a speculative attempt at formulating a third view, which I think has certain advantages over both standard formulations. This third view seems to have an unexpected connection to ergodicity.
