The Forum is open to everyone, including students, visitors, and faculty members from all departments and institutes!

The 60 minute lecture is followed by a 10 minute break and a 30-60 minute discussion. The language of presentation is English or Hungarian.
The scope of the Forum includes all aspects of theoretical philosophy, including:
  • logic and philosophy of formal sciences
  • philosophy of science
  • modern metaphysics
  • epistemology
  • philosophy of language
  • problems in history of philosophy and history of science, relevant to the above topics
  • particular issues in natural and social sciences, important for the discourses in the main scope of the Forum.

On the Continuum
In this paper it is argued that determination of the structure of the continuum has always been an empirical matter. This thesis is supported by a demonstration in second-order logic from the Axiom of Completeness and via the one-point Alexandroff compactification of the real line that the Mahler U, T transcendental reals are Cohen reals and the Mahler S reals are random reals.  An important consideration is the distinction between the potential and actual infinite, which is used extensively in the derivation.

A filozófiai praxis elméleti alapjai
(The theoretical basis of philosophical practice)
Az elmúlt években egyre többet hallunk hazánkban is a filozófiai praxisról, illetve annak alapvető formáiról, mint amilyen az egyéni filozófiai tanácsadás/konzultáció, a ’szókratészi dialógus’, a gyerekekkel való filozofálás vagy a filozófiai kávéház. Előadásomban egyrészt a gyakorlati filozofálás ezen új lehetőségeit tekintem át, másrészt azokat a metafilozófiai, etikai és egyéb megfontolásokat, amelyek e lehetőségek érvényesítése révén kerülnek a filozófia sajátos diszciplináris vonatkozásai iránt érdeklődő filozófusok figyelmének középpontjába. A filozófiai praxis nem csupán a filozófiai gondolkodás egy újabb alkalmazási lehetősége, hanem a filozófia történetére, természetére és társadalmi szerepére vonatkozó reflexió rendkívül termékeny kiindulópontját is jelenti. Előadásomban elsősorban azokat a kérdéseket igyekszem körüljárni, amelyek alkalmat nyújtanak arra, hogy a filozófiai praxis megjelenésének tükrében újragondolhassuk a filozófia történeti és jelen társadalmi viszonyok között érvényesülő különböző felfogásait, illetve más diszciplínákhoz (pl. pszichológia vagy idegtudomány) való viszonyát.
