Why Kripke's Account
of Name Reference is Wrong?
|
I
argue that Kripke’s account of the reference of names is mistaken: his
‘baptism’ plays no semantic role in the reference of names, and the
semantic role played by communication chains is far more limited than
he claimed. I also develop a different account of how names name. My
account is not a version of description theory, although it
incorporates some elements of this theory.
